    Weight Loss

Whatever is required, we provide friendly, non-judgemental advice and guidance on your nutritional concerns. Our philosophy is that weight management, diet and health are inextricably linked and that feeling comfortable with your weight is a vital cornerstone of your general well-being and lifestyle. The Diet Practice works with its clients to identify appropriate programmes for the way that you live and work and mentors and monitors the impact of those programmes, adjusting them when and where necessary. We do not believe that there is a single approach that works for everyone and tailoring a package that our clients are comfortable with is one of the factors that sets us apart.

    Nutrition for health

Although the majority of our clients are seeking help in losing weight, we do work also with people who want to make dietary changes because of weight loss, high cholesterol, PCOS, menopause, diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome and allergies. As with weight loss, we do accept that there is not one approach that suits all issues but ensure that we can work with you to succeed in meeting your goals and maintaining your long term health.

›› How we work with you

We offer 3 ways of working with you:-

Whichever approach you choose - and you may wish to move from one to another whilst we are working alongside you - you will first go through a screening to identify exactly what you want to achieve and to enable us to better understand what you are doing at the moment, including what influences you, such as family pressures, personal issues or barriers, the need to cater for children and adults at mealtimes, financial constraints and so on. We aim to communicate with you clearly, simply and objectively. Techniques used during sessions vary according to the nutritional concern but where appropriate behavioural change and cognitive behavioural treatment (CBT) is used not only to achieve weight loss but also to minimise subsequent weight regain. We do not sell products or plans and we will never resort to any scientific "spin". Our aim is to provide practical help and to ensure that you learn how to manage weight and nutrition issues yourself.

  3. Children and Teenagers

  4. ›› Our Philosophy

We recognise that all children and teenagers are different and that the reasons for being overweight are unique to them. We will work with you and your child to identify the factors causing your child to be overweight, we will teach you all about healthy eating and work with both of you to make changes that are realistic and sustainable. Our approach uses a number of psychological and behavioural techniques such as goal setting and food diaries.

    ›› Services

An initial appointment, lasting 75 minutes, with you and your child. The aim is to enable us to better understand what you are doing at the moment, including family pressures and any personal issues or barriers. We will take your child's weight and height and plot it on a children's growth chart and find out about any medical conditions, learning or physical disabilities. We will also talk to you about when your child started to put on weight and any significant events that occurred at that time. We will also discuss you child's current eating habits and patterns and compare these with current guidelines. Once we have collected all this information we will make recommendations on a way forward.

    Cost £85

After the initial appointment we will make recommendations on areas to focus on with your child. Sometimes, teenagers prefer to have some sessions without their parent. Obviously we would discuss this with you and decide on a way forward. Here are some of the topics we have covered with other clients:

Subsequent appointments will last approximately one hour.

    Cost £80 per session
